Search for Good is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Institutional Giving Manger for Literacy Inc. A minimum of four years of communications experience, with two of those as a grants writer, minimum required to be considered.

Literacy Inc. (LINC) mobilizes resources in high-needs neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island to surround children with literacy-rich environments in their homes, schools, and neighborhoods. Our 2-Gen holistic approach fosters early literacy development to nurture generations of lifelong learners. LINC's vision is to harness the power that exists in every community to make literacy a value and a right of all children.

A pioneer in the field of early literacy, LINC leads several collective impact initiatives in addition to its comprehensive programs, and was honored as a finalist for the 2018 & 2019 Nonprofit Excellence Awards in recognition of its high level of overall organizational management and won the 2018 award for Excellence in Financial Management and the 2019 award for Excellence in Resource Development and Fundraising.

Position Summary

LINC seeks a strategic and skilled Institutional Giving Manager committed to LINCs commitment to literacy for all children. With an annual fundraising goal of more than $5 million, LINC is experiencing growth and transformation as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary. Our ideal Institutional Giving Manager is eager to become a key member of our award-winning Development team. Our ideal candidate cares about education, equity, and advocacy and is motivated to join LINC at this critical and exciting time.

As a key team member, the Institutional Giving Manager will work closely with the executive team to assist in cultivating, sustaining, and growing our relationships with foundation prospects. The Institutional Giving Manager will write compelling communications, proposals, grant reports, and LOIs leveraging academic research and LINC's evaluation and impact findings. Reporting to the Director of Development, you will oversee our foundation grant communication, including proposal preparation, writing, submission, and reporting. You will also manage our existing foundation portfolio, new prospect research, and secure new institutional funders. This position also oversees the application process and compliance of charity watchdog groups.

Our ideal candidate is a superb writer, creative and analytical, and passionate about cultivating relationships with grantmakers. You are highly organized and conscientious, can prioritize effectively, juggle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.

This position can be primarily remote; however, we may require occasional in-person meetings. Use of LINC's office at other times is optional.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage academic research and LINC’s impact to write effective and compelling proposals, reporting materials, and additional communications that ensure support for LINC’s mission and programs.
  • Manage the integrity of the database of foundation donors while also ensuring acknowledgment letters are mailed promptly and accurately.
  • Upgrade our grant research strategy to organize a pipeline for new funding solicitation and acquisition processes.
  • Develop, cultivate, and strengthen relationships with existing and prospective donors.
  • Improve our cultivation and communications strategies to foster a community of engaged foundation staff and leadership.
  • Meet regularly with program staff to collect stories, data (qualitative & quantitative), and other information pertinent to developing intelligent and compelling proposals and informational materials.
  • Manage the integrity of the database of donors and potential donors while also ensuring acknowledgment letters are mailed promptly and accurately.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Development team and across other departments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ years of direct experience in communications with minimum 2+ of those years in direct grant writing.
  • Bachelor's Degree required, and related certifications preferred.
  • Background in fundraising is necessary, and previous experience in research or policy is helpful.
  • High level of creativity, initiative, and motivation.
  • Excellent organization and research skills.
  • Superior writing, analytical, listening, and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team.
  • Proactive and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Curious, collaborative, information-seeking, continuous learner, and creative problem solver.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced organization and adapt to complexity or ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated passion for LINC's mission.
